Rush 2 boasts improved visuals, largely in the vehicles themselves, but it's still very reminiscent of the original. Graphics Let's face the facts: San Francisco Rush isn't going to be remembered because of its overwhelming graphics. The point system isn't entirely complete in the 90% complete version we have, thus landing a particularly tricky mid-air spin is only acknowledged by a cheery "ooh!" Atari Games is still working on enhancing the point system as well as adding floating targets and rings to jump through for extra fun and bonuses.
A multitude of jumps, quarter-pipes, obstacles, canyons and roof-tops make up the Stunt track, but that's not all: Atari Games has also implemented a point system which awards players for tricks landed. Strikingly similar to San Francisco Rush's Papy Land, Rush 2's Stunt track is bigger, bolder and ultimately better. Rush fans that love the game for its airborne thrills and car-twirling spills may find pure racing a bit tedious, but Rush 2 more than makes up for it with the inclusion of its Stunt track. Also, the game's trademark keys are back for one more go around. Later levels Seattle and Hawaii boasts a considerable amount of hidden routes and sky-scraping air-rides as well as improved racing. It should be noted, however, that early tracks, especially the game's Las Vegas course, are virtually deprived of any real jumps or secrets in favor of a straight racing formula. Jumping is still an intricate part of gameplay, as are tricks and secrets. The Atari Games team has even enhanced the physics model so that, with a little luck and good timing, players can actually drive on two wheels.
Cars still fishtail, burst into speed wobbles and flip over. Each car handles tightly and precise, but that's not to say that Rush's overblown physics engine has been toned down. Hard Drivin' "Sharp turns are impossible," probably the biggest complaint of San Francisco Rush, has been firmly addressed for the sequel. Each car handles differently than the other. Players can set their car's transmission, main color (32 different colors to choose from), accent color, stripe, stripe color, tires, tire rims, torque, suspension, tires and durability. Just as each track can be customized, so can each vehicle. Additionally, the game features five bonus cars. There are 16 selectable vehicles including the Mobster, Sedan, Bandit, Exotic, Van, Sportster, Subcompact, Concept, Hatchback, Cruiser, Stallion, 4x4, Pickup, Compact and Muscle Car. For example, players can predetermine whether or not they want to race through a track forwards or backwards, set the degree of fogging, wind level, number of laps, number of racers, difficulty, check points and so on.
Each track can be customized before racing. Players can race through 11 immediately selectable tracks including Uptown New York, Downtown New York, Alcatraz (arcade-perfect), Los Angeles, Seattle, Hawaii, Half-pipe, Pipe, Crash and Stunt.

Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA puts more emphasis on racing than the series previous incarnation, but at the same time manages to retain the same, excellent feeling of floaty-air jumps and hidden routes at every turn.

The title, headed by gaming legend Ed Logg, has been developed from the start with Nintendo's 64-bit console in mind. So well received, in fact, that Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA, will hit Nintendo 64 exclusively this November.
